BRIGHTEST GUYS YOU NEVER HEARD OF
At Photon our Work and customers speak for themselves. We often hear prospects ask “How come I never heard of you guys?” We take it as a source of humility and gentle humor. However, recently our work has been drawing more attention.
WE’RE HERE TO MAKE YOU LOOK GOOD
We don’t aim to make ourselves look good, we aim to make *you* look good. That’s why our work won the Infoworld 100 prize and the Top 100 Global Companies award by Red Herring. We were invited to speak at the Billion Dollar CIO Roundtable, and the recent New York Executive CIO summit. We also won several Webby Awards for our projects.
3 Important Things To Consider When Outsourcing App Development
- By RONALD BARBA at Tech Cocktail
In our tech startup ecosystem, there are coders, there are designers, and there are hustlers. If you’re coming into this world hoping to truly make something from some great idea, then you likely fulfill at least one of these three roles. Of course, in order for you to truly launch a successful company with an actual product, you’ll need all three of these elements. Unless you’re some brilliant polymath, it’s unlikely that you have expert competency in each of these skills. More likely, you can pursue one of two options: 1) bring in other partners/founders with the skills you lack, or 2) hire help from the outside.
For many non-technical people with a product or startup idea, hiring outside work may be the better option: you don’t need to convince anyone about the brilliance of your idea, it takes … Read More »
What’s Wrong With the Retail Mobile Mind-Set?
- By Mukund Balasubramanian, Founder and CTO, Photon at Retail Online Integration
In this post-PC era, mobile is a business game changer. Enterprises acknowledge the need for mobile strategy, yet many of them are struggling to capitalize on the opportunities. Most enterprises need serious help in understanding and implementing mobile solutions. Existing processes are completely unsuited to meet the expectations of end-user consumers or consumerized IT end users.
Here are four fallacies that consistently stifle enterprise mobile projects:
1. Mobile is an experimental subset of features on the web. Wrong. Consumers expect all that the web has to offer and much more.
Long gone are the days when creating a mobile presentation layer for existing web services was a suitable mobile strategy. The mobile experience is completely different than a desktop experience. Consumers demand much more than what’s available on the web. Innovative features like prescription refill by scan, store finder and geo-specific deals are … Read More »
Getting Apps Ready for Cyber Monday
- By Srinivas Balasubramanian, Chairman and CEO, Photon at Media Post Blogs
“Black Friday is coming. Officially it’s the 29th of November, but unofficially – and far more importantly for big brands – it’s right around the corner.”
Why should that worry you? Because if you’re like most brand managers, you’re going to launch a mobile app this year, whether for a campaign, a promotion, or a major upgrade. Because you’ve realized you can’t afford to miss out on the consumer behaviors created by the mobile channel. And, because there’s a good chance that your mobile campaign efforts may be hamstrung by some Old School rules that should have gone out the window with the not-so-smart phone.
Many big brands don’t understand the most fundamental change that mobile apps have brought about. When it comes to mobile, state-of-the-art is not about reliably delivering cloud services. State-of-the-art is all about connecting with human … Read More »
Advertising Week is a special time for marketers – it’s about networking, having some fun with your peers and also about exploring the next generation of digital advertising innovation. Ad Week is also about New York City, and the vibrant creative community that works and lives here. On Tuesday, I had the pleasure of meeting with Michael Frazier, the VP of Communications for a very special Windows Phone app called the 9/11 Memorial Guide. Like me, many of you remember where you were when you first heard “the news” as well as the feelings you had on that terrible day. For New Yorkers, these memories have never faded.
In my recent interview with Michael at Advertising Week, he explains the vision behind the app along with the many features that are unique to Windows Phone – … Read More »
“There were 300 people there, and I ended up talking to five people I already knew,” said Mr. Brainch, 38, director of marketing at Advantage Futures, a Chicago-based clearing firm.
So he built an app, LinkUP, to fix that problem. It allows users to figure out who is coming to conferences and other networking events and connect with them ahead of time so you can be sure to meet up.
“It’s the biggest question event organizers get asked, and it’s what attendees want to know: Who else is going to be there?” he said.
The app — he got the idea of how it might work from dating apps … Read More »
Why Most Branded Apps Fail
- By Srinivas Balasubramanian, Chairman and CEO, Photon at Mobile Marketing Magazine
According to a study published by Deloitte, 80 per cent of branded apps struggle to get even 1,000 downloads. And yet, according to a different study from Distimo, 92 per cent of top global brands from Interbrand have presence on apple’s app store. This means that just about everyone is trying, but very few are succeeding.
So what are brands trying to achieve by having an app?Apps are expected to enhance sales and improve engagement. But more importantly, branded apps are expected to deliver the brand promise and add value to the customer experience.
As we know from the Deloitte study, very few apps get the multiple millions of downloads every brand wants. But downloads aren’t enough. Most organizations measure number of downloads as a success parameter of an app. However, as per a recent study, users download an average … Read More »
Is your App ready for iOS 7?
- By Srinivas Balasubramanian, Chairman and CEO, Photon at Sandhill.com
Word on the street is that Apple is following the same 100-day launch plan they used for iOS 6, which would put the release date on Sept. 18, 2013. At WWDC, Tim Cook called iOS 7 “The biggest change to iOS since the first iPhone.”
A VentureBeat article shows 93 percent of iPhone users are on iOS 6. More recent numbers during a 14-day period ending June 3, 2013, show this even higher, at 96 percent on iOS 6. Although on day one all of these users won’t switch, the broad trend shows that Apple is deeply committed to eliminating fragmentation in the developer platform for their OS.
There are a few implications here, the biggest one being that if your app is not updated to iOS 7 you will be left “in the dust.” If you remember … Read More »
